Easy Inventory

Sunday, September 20, 2009

1.,2., and 3. are pictures of Whitestone. You know that spot on the highway heading North and you always want to stop and take a picture of it because it is a unique landmark? This was after flying around the base and Whitestone Lake. Picture 3 shows the rotor wash on the ground... I landed to take the pictures...
4. A picture flying into the sunset clouds. I liked the colors....
When you fly through the clouds it is just like passing through real ones and yes... it is fun punching holes through clouds and picking the ones you want to.
5. Would you believe a jeep that travels along the ground... you steer it with the joystick, move it with the throttle, and you can follow the roads, but this in not that easy to do. It goes down when the road goes down and tips sideways when the road tips. It can travel cross country but gets stuck in quite a few places. Everything around Dorothy Scott Airport is apparantly a BOG... it will go just off the airport grass and then sticks there. I made it to about Ellisforde and got stuck a couple times. It's pretty cool. Like the planes and choppers, when you crash and have to reset... it goes back to the starting airport.

A Moving Experience

Computers can be so frustrating, but when they work right then you get a link to Kevin's First Flight Video. Just click on it.

Back in the Saddle

1.When I got back to flying and went to start up the helo it was getting dark! Never had that happen before. Kinda cool! I have never seen such a strange pattern of clouds in FG either.
2. Small picture I had to take a second look during posting... it almost looks like an airplane heading straight for me... it's the Oroville Airport.
3. Heading in for Oroville Airport.
4. First successful night landing(back in Oroville)
5. For those of you who would say that I crashed a helo every which way but up.... well here ya go... My first trial of the Dauphin Helicopter a few days ago. I don't need to tell what happened next...

Palmer Crash 2

1. Crash site. You just gotta LOVE Google Earth!
2. Landing site. Well I WAS trying to get close to the edge for a photo op...
3. Pretty much buried the old nose!
4. Right at the edge...
5. yup. buried.
Afternote.. We are going camping up toats coulee next week and I am leaving my helicopter at home. I won't be able to look at those mountains in the same way now....

Palmer Crash 1

Okay.... a couple explanations here...

1. When you start Flightgear it starts at the airport. You have to go through the startup and wait for the turbines to get up to power. Then you have to hope you take off right, or you crash, and you get to start the process over again.

2. Anywhere you crash you start back at the airport you just left from. Crashing is not good when you have worked half an hour to to get someplace....

3. Investigations have shown that the pilot (that's ME) had two alcoholic beverages (that's those MARGARITAS) just hours before the flight. Vertigo may have still been a factor. The load that the copter may have been more than normal due to a FULL BELLY (that's the great food)! Fatigue could also have been a factor. Yup, pilot error. I am not going to comment on these pictures, they pretty much speak for themselves.

Almost went over the cliff. This was on takeoff when I lost control. Had I actually gone over the cliff I might have been able to drop the nose and recover..... or not.
It almost looks like that might be Windy Peak in the background of #3.
