Old Water Flume

Years ago these wooden flumes were built not only to supply the valley with irrigation water for the orchards, but to provide work for people. It has been a long time since they were used, and a lot of the old flumework has been ripped out, but behind the lake, a piece of history still remains.

By "providing work" I assume you meant in their need for constant repair! I can remember my old granddad spending plenty of time on the portions that ran through his orchard, before they went to a cement canal system. I do love to see them still standing though, reminders of a simpler, bygone era. We have come so far, TOO FAST. And left so much behind that was irreplaceable.
