A Tale of Two Lindas
Last Monday I got informed at work that a friend and ex-boss from California had stopped by the house to see me. She was on a hurried trip to Canada.. to her family where her father had passed on from a sudden illness. My heart went out to her.. that she would suffer from a terrible loss in her life. I was trying to get my mind in order how to best offer my sympathies in a heartfelt and personal way.
Last Thursday I got informed at work that a friend and ex-boss from Oregon had been in a devastating motorcycle/pick-up crash that instantly took the life of her husband and his best friend riding another bike. She was life flighted to Portland with a ruptured spleen and multiple compound fractures in critical condition. My heart goes out to her.. that she will have to suffer such a tragic loss in her life. Once again I am trying to get my mind in order as to how best to show a friend that her loss is felt by others.
Blink
A new day begins
Just like any other
Open your eyes and they are there
Right where they have always been
Living the promise of a new day
Blink
A phone call sounds in the distance
The same ring as every time before
And after a hesitation you hear the sorrow
Of words not wanting to be spoken
Leaving the tears of a new day
Blink
A new day begins
Just like any other
Watch the scenery pass by
On a beautiful summer morning
Riding in the promise of a new day
Blink
An oncoming vehicle
Changes life in an instant
Never to be the same again
As you lay there
Fighting for the promise of a new day
Blink
- for the two Lindas in my life... my deepest heartfelt sympathies for your pain and your losses... may God give you the strength to find peace and the strength to recover and carry on.

Thank you Kevin, what a beautiful poem. Though Linda and I are strangers I feel a kinship through you, our dear mutual friend. My heart goes out to her for her loss. If I have learned anything these past two difficult years its that one must grab hold of each day, live them to the fullest, and always be prepared for change. Life is about impermanence and adapting to change, be it filled with joy or pain. And the human spirit is very resilient.
Take good care, and God bless.
